The Story how i became a DJ & Producer!

I was born on March 10, 1978 in Linz. My mother was a commercial clerk and my father was a traveling salesman. I grew up with my mother, my aunt and my grandparents. As a child at a tender age, I began to record my surroundings with a normal cassette recorder and to experiment.
When I was 11 years old, my family switched to cable TV and that’s how I discovered my love for music through the TV stations MTV, Superchannel, the TV shows “X-Large” and “Wurlitzer”. That’s how I got to know pop music at the end of the 80s. My first music cassette was an over-recorded cassette of songs by Phil Collins, which I loved to listen to over and over again when I retired to my room.
I was very drawn to the dance music of that time. Through this I discovered a lot of other artists like Londonbeat, Lisa Stansfield, Kraftwerk, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Pet Shop Boys and many more.
Very soon my cousin also noticed the love for my music and he began to inspire me with the music he was listening to. I found out very quickly that we had similar interests in music. At the beginning of 1990 I also noticed that my classmates were interested in music and I started listening to many genres. My music was influenced by artists like MC Hammer, Kylie Minogue, Enigma, Sandra, EMF, The KLF, partly also New Kids on the Block (heard the girls in our school class back then), INXS, Metallica, Soul II Soul, Salt’n ‘ Pepa, Dr. Alban, L.A. Style, U96, Deee-Lite, Blue Pearl, 2 Unlimited and many more.
In 1991 my cousin wanted to take me to a disco for the first time. I was 13 years old at the time and my mother had an argument about it.
From 1992 I began to listen to more electronic music and discovered my absolute love for this music. There I discovered artists like Rozalla, Utah Saints, Usura and many others. Since that time I have been listening to electronic music continuously until today.
I also began to look into how this music is produced.
When I was 17 I got my first computer and started experimenting with audio files for the first time. I started editing audio files in Steinberg’s Wavelab.
I always associated electronic music with the fondest memories I had with my friends. From 1994 on I went to discos and rave parties regularly and kept getting to know new people.
There I soon realized that my way would be to make music. I started to work with various music programs and to produce songs myself. At that time the quality wasn’t that good, but I got interested in it. So producing music became my hobby for a long time. From 2004 I began to be more interested in house music through artists like Roger Sanchez, David Guetta, Filterheadz, Olav Basoski, Rune, Axwell and many more. During this time I also got to know my friend Martin, who later called himself DJ electronic Boy and who accompanied my career until his death in 2014.
In 2006 a friend asked me if I would like to work as a DJ. For fun I said “yes” and so I began to gather my experiences behind the mixer for the first time.
I started out as a resident DJ in an oldie bar and within 4 months I had built up my regular audience. Still, my love was electronic music. After 4 months I gave up my job as an oldie DJ. After a half-year break, I started my DJ career again from home.
I met my DJ colleagues Norbi da Silva & DJ Daniel Wilson in 2007 and spent a lot of time with the guys back then. Martin was always there too. Thanks to Daniel and Norbi, I gained a lot of experience in hanging up and Norbi da Silva really learned how to hang up. We practiced very often from my home. And Norbi always called me to his DJ performances.
Since then I have been getting to know new people and artists again and again and I still work with a large part of them today. At first I played under the DJ name Aqualove. In 2009 it was renamed Gerry Verano.
In 2012 I met my current music and label partner Mark Feesh and we founded the record label Digital Room Records on January 14, 2013. Since then we have been releasing our music on our own label.
